Let us know your theories about these two mystery characters in the comments below. The two characters are sitting close enough that they could both be members of House Baratheon. This character could also be one of the many other bastard sons of Robert Baratheon, with Gendry using his newfound authority to legitimize his half-brother. As for the second, we have to wonder if some remnant of House Tyrell remains even after this once great family was brutally eliminated by Cersei's forces. Are they lords of their own houses or simply attending the council as seconds-in-command to Yara and Gendry? The first character's dress is similar enough to Jon's Night's Watch attire that he could be representing Castle Black. It's not immediately clear who either character is meant to be. While the other is seen sitting to Gendry's left: One can be seen sitting to the right of Yara: Unknown CharactersTwo more mystery characters are present in this gathering of lords. It's possible this is Howland Reed, father to Meera and Jojen and a character who previously only appeared in flashbacks set during Robert's rebellion. House Reed There's an unfamiliar character sitting in the council, but given their rugged style of dress, we assume they're representing House Reed.

It's just a shame she had to lose her father and brother and endure the wrath of her crazy Uncle Euron first.

House Greyjoy Yara Greyjoy finally got her wish and now leads House Greyjoy and the Iron Islands. It's possible he's actually the head of a different family who took over from House Martell. This character was mentioned earlier in Season 8 as being loyal to Dany, but we never wind up learning his name. The Warden of the West is a Lannister by tradition. Their sigil is a golden lion on a field of crimson. Their seat is Casterly Rock, though another branch exists that is based in nearby Lannisport. We can see a new Dornish prince attending the council. House Lannister of Casterly Rock is one of the Great Houses of Seven Kingdoms, and the principal house of the westerlands. Though House Martell lost many important figureheads in its clashes with House Lannister (including both Prince Oberyn and Prince Doran), the ruling family of Dorne has clearly weathered the storm. Robin even seems to have grown up and moved past his sickly, petulant phase. Both Robin Arryn and his protector/adviser Yohn Royce were at the council. That's the benefit of hiding out in one of the most notoriously hard-to-reach castles in Westeros. Though much has changed in the Westerlands in recent years, no man antagonizes them without thought, for few are the armies that can invade them, and even the singers know of what happens to those that defy the Rock.įor more information on recent events in the Westerlands, please see our State of the Realm page.House Arryn House Arryn emerged from the wars against the White Walkers and King's landing more or less unscathed. Crakehall, Marbrand, Farman and Banefort - all have legends and tales of their own. House Baratheon has ruled the Kingdom of the Rock for the past seventy years, and before them House Lannister ruled since the Age of Heroes and the fall of House Casterly, and beneath them lies a host of great and ancient Houses that have done them fealty for centuries. Soldiers in all corners of the region are outfitted and trained better than they are anywhere else, and the Westerlands can raise an army larger than that of any realm but the Reach. Lannisport is one of the largest cities in the realm, and its City Watch is one of the finest trained in all of Westeros. Westerlander levies can be recruited from the starting Westerland villages. The region of the Westerlands holds more than just gold and silver, however. Westerland troops consist of heavy infantry, shock infantry, heavy cavalry, and longbowmen. Though smallfolk do fish and farm, many of the greatest strongholds in this region once began as gold mines, and such ancient houses as Lannister, Reyne, and Lefford can trace their rise to power back to that precious metal. Though not the largest, most populous, or most fertile of regions, the Westerlands are the richest, gaining wealth through the deep veins of ore that run beneath it's soil. While these three barriers have aided in keeping this region safe, it is impossible to deny that the people of the Westerlands make up its mighty reputation. The Westerlands are bounded by three natural defenses - sea, mountains, and forest.
